HOW TO REPRESSURISE YOUR BOILER
Did you know you can repressurise your boiler at home? It is a simple task that can be carried out without a heating engineer and can help you resolve issues such as no heating or hot water. Follow our expert guide below to learn more.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR BOILER PRESSURE
If you notice your heating or hot water does not work properly then you should check boiler for low pressure. Locate the water pressure gauge on the front of your boiler. This will either be a hydraulic dial or a digital display. The ideal reading should be between 1 and 1.5, so if your gauge reads below 1 then your boiler pressure is too low.
WHY IS YOUR BOILER PRESSURE LOW?
Before you resolve, you may want to establish why your boiler is losing water pressure. Check for any leaks or damps patches surrounding pipes or radiators. If you do find a leak make sure to contact a local Gas Safe engineer to investigate further. Alternatively, bleeding your radiators can also result in low boiler pressure.
HOW TO REPRESSURISE YOUR BOILER
First of all, establish the filling system you have and follow the relevant instructions. Most modern combi boilers utilise an External Filling Loop. Before starting, ensure your boiler is switched off, sufficiently cooled and consult your manufacturer’s manual. You may require laying something down to catch any leaks that occur during either of these processes.
External Filling Loop
- Locate your filling loop, a flexible silver pipe with a valve at both ends. Ensure it is securely attached to the boiler pipes.
- Open both valves to allow cold mains water into the heating system. You should be able to hear it flowing.
- Consult your pressure gauge to watch for the water pressure reaching between 1 and 1.5.
- Switch off both valves and then turn your boiler back on. You may need to press the reset button.
