WHAT IS A POWERFLUSH AND IS IT WORTH IT?

Do you have an issue with your central heating system? Many problems can be fixed by yourself, such as bleeding radiators, but often professional help is required. An engineer can remedy a lot of issues with your boiler by performing a powerflush.

WHAT IS A POWERFLUSH?

A powerflush is thorough, intense cleaning of your heating system and boiler. The purpose of this process is to improve the quality of your water by removing sludge, rust, and other blockages from your pipes and radiators.

HOW DOES A POWERFLUSH WORK?

During this process, an engineer utilises a special machine to pump cleansing chemicals throughout your central heating system. A powerflush can often take 6-8 hours to complete depending on the size of the property, severity of contamination etc.

DO I NEED A POWERFLUSH?

The following issues could indicate that a powerflush may be required.

  • Radiators: If you find that your radiators are taking a long time to heat up or if you can feel any cold areas along the bottom.
  • Boiler: If your boiler is regularly making strange noises or frequent error codes relating to high pressure.

WHEN SHOULD I POWERFLUSH?

If you are not experiencing any of the issues above, it is still recommended that you carry out this procedure every 5-6 years. This will ensure the quality of water is maintained and help prevent damage to the components of the system. When installing a new boiler, many owners opt to have their engineer carry out a powerflush, particularly if their current system is very old.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A POWERFLUSH?

As touched upon, the main benefits to carrying out this process are as follows.

  • Boiler Health: Dirty water can damage your boiler over time, with components being vulnerable to rust or corrosion.
  • Improves Heating: Preventing and removing blockages, improving the flow of water through the system to increase the speed of heating.
  • Cost Efficient: A heating system that suffers from blockages is inefficient which results in higher energy bills.
